How To Uninstall MMGuardian
The app MMGuardian is a parental controls app for Android that gets its power by using Device Administrator privileges. (found in Settings>Security>Device Administrators)
It gains uninstall protection by having this privilege. If you go into the settings and try to uncheck the checkbox, it just provides a screen to enter the MMGuardian password.
If you forgot your password and don't have access to the control device this can essentially brick your phone. To fix this issue you can boot into safe mode by following these steps.
Note: "breaking" MMGuardian by following these steps will notify the device administrator
- Press and hold the power button until the power off box pops up.
- Tap and hold on the power off box until another box pops up that says something like this: "Reboot to safe mode Do you want to reboot into safe mode? This will disable all third party applications you have installed. They will be restored when you reboot again."
- Press "OK", "YES", or " CONTINUE" (whatever it says for your phone) and let it boot.
- Once it has booted into Safe Mode go to the Settings app. Scroll to "Security" and tap it and then tap "Device Administrators".
- Un-check MMGuardian or whatever other app you're trying to remove Device Administrator privileges from. (You may also want to uninstall the app in Safe Mode. Do this by going to Settings>apps, and then scrolling to MMGuardian. Tap it, and then tap "UNINSTALL")
- Press and hold the power button again and power off and then on again to boot back into regular mode.
I am going to be trying this today. I have lost access to the host phone and need to get the app removed.
ReplyDeleteThank you.It really works just follow the steps, but it may say phone administrator instead of device administrator.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this info. The only issue is that if you disable the actual application, the admin will know. I don't know if that's gonna be a problem for you, but it is for me.

If your parents phone is laying there open and unlocked (or you know their password) just go into settings then notifications and then go to MMguardian and turn off their notifications for the app. :)
